Precision specialist McGinley Orthopedics powers ahead to transform surgical procedures with IntelliSense® Drill

McGinley Orthopedics plans to expand the use of its flagship surgical tool – powered by robotic technology – which enables pinpoint accuracy and safety in repairing fractures needing screws and plates. Multiple sensors measure and sense depth to deliver feedback and additional confidence to the surgeon. The company is also looking to expand its solutions into the delicate world of cranial and spinal procedures.

The Wyoming-based innovator has seen its IntelliSens Drill adopted across the US, delivering better patient fracture outcomes and providing surgeons with unparalleled accuracy. The company has significant patents and expects to expand its international commercial presence in the coming years.

McGinley Orthopedics plans to expand the use of its flagship surgical tool to transform surgical operations.

Now McGinley Orthopedics is on the way to raising $40 million via a Regulation A+ equity crowdfunding investment offering to fund its further disruption of the surgical sector through its pioneering platform.

McGinley Orthopedic's innovative, patented technology massively assists surgeons in the drilling process and aims to change the standard of care. This technology replaces nearly 50-year-old tools for mending broken bones while improving surgeon accuracy and enormously reducing operating time.

Founder and CEO Joseph McGinley MD, PhD (see video) said: "With better engineering, we can deliver better outcomes for patients as we have taken the guesswork out of the operating room in common orthopedic procedures like repairing wrist fractures.

"This new-found accuracy is taking unnecessary pain away from patients through right-first-time procedures. This can lower cost and save time in common orthopedic surgeries and is blazing a trail in a sector which has been slow to adopt game-changing technology."

With McGinley's IntelliSense® technology, we can now take orthopedic surgical measurements from guesswork to precision. Our surgical drills, for example, provide surgeons with real-time feedback while drilling with accuracy up to within a tiny fraction of a millimeter or better, which can dramatically affect patients in terms of post-operation success. The move toward precision helps eliminate serious complications from misplaced or missized screws that are core to healing breaks and fractures.

Precision in surgery is set to improve continually, with nanotechnology already playing a critical role. Enhanced surgical blades and tools produced by novel nanofabrication techniques provide micro-features with highly desirable surface finishes and tolerances, allowing for lower penetration force, finer dissections, and cleaner cuts at the nanoscale leading to more rapid healing.

Nanostructured biomaterials also have the potential to provide unique bone substitute grafts, with the nano composition of these materials emulating the natural bone's hierarchic organization, initiating the growth of a calcium phosphate layer, and allowing for a cellular and tissue response of bone remodelling.

Nanomaterials have been proposed as the next generation of improved orthopaedic implant materials, too, aiming to enhance surface properties to create an environment more conducive to osteoblast function and bone in-growth.

According to a recent report by The Brainy Insights, the global precision surgery device market is expected to exceed $18.99 billion by 2030, with the handheld surgical devices segment likely to have the fastest CAGR (compound annual growth rate) - 17.15% over the forecast period.

McGinley Orthopedics launched the IntelliSense Drill Technology® in 2015, followed by other breakthrough products, including the Lever Action Plate System®, which enables bones and joints to be re-positioned precisely and mend without future complications.
