Brazil and China use new technology for biodiesel production

Brazil and China signed an agreement for the use of a new technology in the production of biodiesel, at a meeting held in Brasília on Tuesday, the Agência Brasil news agency reported.

The Brazilian side expects use of the new technology to contribute to the commitment signed by Brazil to increase the use of biofuels in the country’s energy structure to around 18% by 2030.

The new technology was developed in China and was the subject of a pilot experiment at the Alberto Luiz Coimbra Institute for Graduate Studies and Engineering Research (Coppe), linked to the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), which proved its. commercial viability.

At the same meeting, it was announced that the Chinese company Biostar Company will acquire 80% of the shares of Brazilian biodiesel company Biopar – Produção de Biodiesel Parecis Ltda, based in the state of Mato Grosso, which will be renamed New Biopar.

The Biostar Company will invest 880,000 reais in the business and will produce biodiesel at New Biopar for sale to the Brazilian market.

At the meeting of the Subcommittee on Science, Technology and Innovation of the High-level Sino-Brazilian Commission for Coordination and Cooperation (Cosban), the parties decided to cooperate in biotechnology and agriculture, collaborate in the development of nanotechnology and the creation of new laboratories and platforms together.
